Hi to all the gurus !

I am a newbie. I repeat, I am a really, really, brand new newbie. Just getting up to
learn rendering, ray tracing, modelling, etc.

I am looking for online tutorials for modelling, POVRAY, rendering, ray tracing, ....
in other words, I am looking for tutorials that cover everything including
the kitchen sink. :)

Can anyone here help out, please ?

No, I don't have a lot of money to spare, so books ($$$$) is out of the question. All
I can afford is to download all the tutorials into my computer so I can learn
from them, one at a time.

If you know a good tutorial or two, please tell me. I'd be forever grateful, and
perhaps one day when I am rich enough, I'll treat you a round of beer (or the
beverage of your choice) for your help.

Thanks all of you in advance !

Marie,

Welcome. Before I 'll awnser your question, I'll have to point you the
posting guidelines for this news server, as you asked your question in
several groups, where only one was enough. Please read:

http://news.povray.org/povray.announce.frequently-asked-
questions/32687/230524/#230524

and other posts in the announce.frequently-asked-questions group.

Regarding your question, POV-Ray comes with a complete tutorial to get
you started. Also there are several manuals online that you can find in
the link collection on povray.org

http://www.povray.org/resources/links/
http://www.povray.org/resources/links/3D_Tutorials/POV-Ray_Tutorials/

You can also find modellers there.

No problems there, there ain't no books.... (yet).

As has already been suggested, the manual provides a pretty thorough tutorial.
I'd also strongly recommend reading the pov vfaq at:
http://tag.povray.org/povQandT/

and pay particular attention to this section:
http://tag.povray.org/povQandT/languageQandT.html#rotating
(the bottom line of that one is practice rotating, scaling and translating
objects until you're sure you understand how transforms work).

Aside from that - start coding, and if you run into any problems just post a
call for help in this group, and you'll get a quick response.

BTW it's traditional that your first image should be a mirrored sphere hovering
over a checkered plane, and mine's a White Lady.

In addition to what Ingo and Tom said, it's a very good idea to run at least
once all the demo scenes. These scenes cover a lot of what POV-Ray can do
and then you can recycle the code for your own scenes and start from there.

In addition to the docs mentioned above, look at the submissions to the
binary.images newsgroup, because kitchen sinks and other things turn up
there frequently, often with source code you can examine and learn from.

So much to POV, so little time.

A shot of Don Eduardo Anejo will do for me...

Try http://www.f-lohmueller.de/pov_tut/pov__eng.htm
The best place I found for tutorials about povray.
See you, and welcome to the trip.
