Thinking about it - I assume you mean that your browser displayed the
"file:" prefix to all the "//" - actually, Outlook adds those as I type.
Outlook's obsession with "file:" works at both ends - it adds them as you
edit, and adds them when you download a message as well if they are not
already there.

Ah, yes, that's the hole in my theory. I wasn't aware of that further stupid
behaviour.

PS. That is *not* an FTP link. It refers to a file on a local drive. An ftp
link would be "ftp://", and would refer to a remote file.
