Hi,

I'm not totally new to pov-ray, but new to this ver.(3.1g, windows)
and have not had this problem with the other versions.
What do I need to do to make the scene editor language to default to
Pov-ray scene language when I open a new file, without having to goto
codeMax Properties every time. After I save the file and re opened its
open in Pov-Ray scene lang.

As far as I know when you start a new scene it will be a plain text format file.
It should default to the Pov-Ray scene language as soon as you save the file.

  If Brian finds it annoying as I do to compose the initial scene in plain,
non-color-syntaxed text then he can type insert his scene file header (or
even a single character will do), click on the Save button (or menu item
File|Save As) and specify a filename in the dialog box. Upon saving the
current file, the color syntax highlighting will be in place.

  It's not very recommendable to write all your scene without saving.
  I usually save the scene after each written line of code. That's what
keyboard shortcuts are for :)

  That's a good practice, Warp. Yours is the safest method to avoid a real
tragedy in the event of a crash. I use CTRL+S a lot, also.

The most important thing to know about computers

Alt F S saves the work you've done so far and if you do this as
Nieminen does after every line, you don't notice that you're
doing it after a while. I wouldn't say that I save after every
line, but certainly after what I would consider to be a change in
the document.

Ctl-x Ctl-s does it for me.     :-P
(using Emacs)

But I'd take a chance to recommend that all POV-Ray users consider using RCS or
some other form of source control.

It makes it easy to revert to any prior version of a scene file, makes backups
easier, and allows for playing with different variations without having to worry
about messing up the main file.

And another side benefit is that if you use RCS and are a person who dual-boots
Windows and Linux, it can handle the line end conversions for you.



Source control: It's not just for programmers anymore.  :-)

I find that I have to move my hand a bit to hit the Ctrl so the
finger that I'd use to hit the S can't reach the S, so I can't do
that one.  

I was taught to type at 8 years old because I couldn't read my
own hand writing, and there was a cloth that coverd my hands and
the keyboard.  I'm very set in my ways I suppose, and you can't
teach an old dog new tricks and all that rubbish.
