Hi,
I'm not a real artist. All I want to do is be able to make fonts appear
3-D and I want to be able to do it quickly. I downloaded POV and the
learning curve seems to be rather huge--and it doesn't display my
computer's resident fonts in POV.
Is there an easy way to do 3-D fonts in POV or can anyone recommend a
program for doing these things (freeware preferable, but any suggestions
are helpful).
Thanks much!
Andrew

If you use the text example in the POV documentation you can get 3D text
immediately from any TrueType font on your system..
Another program dedicated to 3D rendered text is FontFX
http://www.erain.com/. All the 3D text on my web site (except on my Art
page) was done with this tool.
Also, look in povray.binaries.utilities for softtex. Remco de Corte and
Rudy Velthuis have both developed utilities that generate 3D text from your
truetype fonts and create the pov files necessary to render them. Remco's
utility is the one I used on my Art page.
Good luck!
