If you use the text example in the POV documentation you can get 3D text
immediately from any TrueType font on your system..

Another program dedicated to 3D rendered text is FontFX
http://www.erain.com/.  All the 3D text on my web site (except on my Art
page) was done with this tool.

Also, look in povray.binaries.utilities for softtex.  Remco de Corte and
Rudy Velthuis have both developed utilities that generate 3D text from your
truetype fonts and create the pov files necessary to render them.  Remco's
utility is the one I used on my Art page.
