Hej ,

i have a (maybe stupid) question that came up while playing with media.
I'm using a global media to let the light become visible. Now my
question is :
Does a PointLightSource influence a media or do I have to use a
Spotlight instead ?

The only difference between a point light and a spotlight is that the
spotlight only illuminates a certain area.
A point light may illuminate too uniformly for your purposes.

It lights up the media in the same way, but the effect is
less interesting because a point light source spreads the
light in such a uniform way.

Actually, I disagree that the effect is less interesting - it just has
different uses. With media_attenuation and/or light_attenuation you can
make streetlights, lanterns, sun etc. etc.

I agree with Margus, I had some nice versions of a PointLight sitting in
a partly transparent texture. So you got beams heading in all directions
and with some fading they will not run out of the screen. Another effect
was a projector that has thrown an filtered Imagemap on a white wall. I
know that is possible without atmosphere too, but you can't see the
beams. It would be nice to here from anybody else who tried it, since I
still don't got it working right. I could post an image in
binaries.images if someone is interested.
