hi. i'm very new to this (i heard about pov-ray yesterday from a friend and
dl'd it then).
i followed the basic tutorial and tried to render it...
nothing
i'm using OS 9.2.2 with carbonLib 1.6 (no OS X) and my settings are as
follows:
- language version: 3.5
- Show Preview: on
- Mosaic Display: Start 4 End 1
- Include Paths: MyHD:POV-Ray 3.5:include: (i have also tried it without the
include path)
- Render Quality: [6,7]
- Anti-Aliasing: on
- Auto-Bounding
- Ignore any "bounded by" in scene
- Split Unions
- Use Light Buffer
- Use Vista Buffer
- Image Size: 80 x 80 - Preview
- Save Image As: PICT (Mac OS)
- Bits PEr Color: 8
- Save Histogram as: None
- no Animations
- No Actions
has anyone had the same problems?
am I better off getting an older non-carbonized version?
thanks
d_

Could you be more specific? What exactly happens? Do you get an error
message? A blank image?
All the best

the render progress screen comes up and the and says "start".
but it never goes further than that. i tried it again today and it was stuck
in the same place for 6 hours.
when i try to stop rendering, or quit the application, it freezes and i have
to force it to quit (cmd + opt + esc).

That is a very weird problem. I have never had this kind of problem before.
Do you have the correct carbonLib? Try to check that.
Do you get any warnings in the Messages window? Or it just stays there
freezed?

That is something wrong with your system. For it to freeze, there must be
something wrong.
All the best
Fidel.

If he can force quit the program, the system isn't frozen, just the
program. A system problem could cause it, but it isn't a sign of a
system problem.

When I said for it to freeze, I didn't mean the OS but the application. And
something wrong with the system I meant (OS + povray conflict). Sorry for
the incomplete explanation.
Best Regards
Fidel.

I have a 170 version and it works for 9.2.2 while build 173 chokes and
dies exactly as has been previously described in this thread. The 9.2.2
system is a dedicated imac with very limited extensions and none of
those mentioned here (ram doubler, kalediscope etc.) The 10.1.5 is a Ti
powerbook G4 with 512 ram. So... I bugged it.
In summary, is this correct?
170 screwed up templates for 10.1.5
173 no joy at all for 9.2.2 carbon lib 1.6 but OK 10.1.5
abyss is a bad file (too bad it wasn't zebra.pov)

It's tacky to quote yourself but...
The pain in the neck memory logs from build 170, left all over the HD
like cigarette butts in a parking lot, are sometimes useful. They do
show the memory leak in abyss.pov. Warning, the memory leak is severe
enough to crash 8.X or 9.X so if you want to take a look... use 10.X (Is
10.X a pun?)

No, they have absolutely no meaning at all and are completely useless. What
is logged there has nothing to do with any of the problems. In fact it is
logging things that are not even supposed to be freed by the time the log is
created.
