I am a long time Mac user and I'm glad to see that we've got our own
group now. I hadn't heard of it until today. I also hadn't heardof the
unofficial version on smellenbergh's page until today, so I'll look into
that as well.
I do have a question, tho. I am working on a scene for the IRTC and I'm
using the tree macro file that Gilles Tran uploaded a few weeks ago. On
my windows machine I can have multiple trees without any problem, but on
my iMac with 64Mgs of RAM, virtual memory set to 128 Megs, I need to
give POV-Ray 110 MB of RAM in order to render three trees and the memory
peaks during parsing. If I add another tree, the number of objects gets
absudrly high and the programwill crash.
Is anyone else have this kind of memory trouble on their Macs? And does
anyone know if the unofficial version would have this problem?

I am having similar problems. I am trying to create a highly-detailed
village, which will ultimately have a massive load of objects. For now I'm
less worried about speed of rendering as I am of actually having the entire
village, indoors and out, available for a render. It didn't take me long
to realize, with a quick ground-work test (literally) using fracHill, that
too many objects just won't do well.
I would love it if POVRay could cache out work to a file so it can handle
the more absurdly complex images... In the meantime, I am also looking for
solutions to organize a massive project like this one.
