I want to add hair to a mesh. Anyone got any advice? I've got Warp and Chris
C.s mesh compressor and the hair include, but afaik they are not compatible
with 3.5

I think you're stuck but have you checked Doug Eichenburg's site and
macros. As I recall I did some testing with them and somehow they were
working.

That depends on whether you are using a mesh or a mesh2.
If you are using a mesh then there's no problem.

If you are using a mesh2, you'll need the newest beta version of the
mesh compressor to convert it. Unfortunately if the mesh2 has uv-coordinates
the macros have yet to be updated to support the new pcm format. It shouldn't
be too difficult to update them yourself, though...
Also only the windows version of the program is available during
beta testing, sorry... :)

  You can download it at:

Ah! Excellent. Ambassador, you are spoiling uz.

I'd just figured out that exporting as mesh rather than mesh2 was probably,
under the circs., a good idea (done that but yet to try the compressor).
Nevertheless, the beta is a welcome alternative - are Colefax's stuff and
Eicheberg's MayaFur still compatible?

The PCM macros work fine with 3.5, although updates are planned to support
the new compressed mesh formats produced by the latest version of Warp's
Mesh Compressor.

In retrospect I was being stoopid - I was converting a poser obj export via
3dwin to mesh2. Exporting to mesh works afaik.

So...

I'll export as mesh, create the hair/fur as a separate object (afair your macros
support this). I can then combine both the hair and a mesh2 export. Does that
sound about right?

Are you sure 3dwin converts to mesh2? I have had some problems in Moray with
3dwin converted meshes, whilst PoseRay ones are OK

IIRC - I'd have to double-check when I get home, but I'm pretty damn certain I
saw "mesh2" in the object inc. What I am absolutely sure about is that when I
exported in 3.1 format, the mesh-compressor (the official version rather than
the beta) found the mesh (before it was returning "no objects found" iirc).
