Does anyone know if I can find the povray 3.5 documentation in pdf format
somewhere?

Not at this time. There is one planned but it has not yet been produced or
published.

As a tiny contribution to povray, I have converted the documentation into
pdf format. There are two files:
povray-scr.pdf - this is in landscape mode, and designed to be read on
screen. New sections start on new pages. No bookmarks in this one, for
technical reasons.
povray-doc.pdf - this one is designed for printing, and has bookmarks too.
