Hi all,
Has anyone any experience in using PoseRay to convert DXF models to the mesh2
format?
Are there other tools that can be used to create mesh2 objects?
Pointers to tutorials, examples and readmes would be great.
Thanks in advance
Reuben

I normally use PoseRay to convert OBJ files to mesh2 as Poser does not use UV
mapping with DXF files.
I checked by exporting a DXF mesh and loading into PoseRay then exporting it
from the Pov Ray Output tab. The resulting geometry file was a mesh2.
There are fairly good instructions in the PoseRay help file.
3DWin from http://www.tb-software.com/ created mesh2 but it may not be supported
now. Rheingold3D from the same site should do the job too. I have not used 3DWin
for a few years as I found PoseRay to give better results.
If you have any more questions please ask.

To get the conversion to work the DXF model must be made up of 3DFACEs
or meshes encapsulated in POLYLINE. Anything else is discarded. Maybe
the DXF file you are testing does not have discrete faces or it has an
formatting that PoseRay does not recognize. You could email me the file
and I can take a look at it. My email is in PoseRay's manual or the
bottom status area of the program.

Thanks for that Stephen.
I'll see how I get on.

I've managed to load a DXF object into PoseRay and then export to mesh2
and render in Povray. The DXF file I used is a lego car model file
(available from http://www.geocities.com/Eureka/Gold/3269/dat2dxf.html)
I'm experimenting with using the PovEdge macro
(http://tuabiht.chez-alice.fr/PovEdge_Site/PovEdge.html) on lego models :-)
Thanks for your help so far.

I just checked the model. One tip I can give you is that if you want to
remove the faceted appearance just go to the groups tab and press weld
vertices and then recalculate normals.
good luck,
