Recently I found that pov limits colour_maps to 256 entries. I was

containing 915 and 1444 entries respectively.

I settled for 915 entries and used awk and matlab to interpolate and
convert both transmit and colour values to pov syntax. Please feel free
to comment on my approach, as I'm not sure if this is the easiest way.

(A higher resolution image (125k) is available at
http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~as/bilder/sat.jpg)

Looking really good I should say. As of color_maps, you can work
around this limitation by using a pigment_map of color_mapped
pigments.

BTW, this should have gone into .binaries.images. Thank you. Nice work.

Sorry, I'm new to this group. I was not sure whether to post the image on
.binaries.images and the scene files here, or alle the files on the same
place. I chose this group since I considered the scene files as the issue
here, but I reckon from your response it is customary to post all the files
on .images if any images are included.

Um, no. Any images related to binaries here should go to
povray.binaries.images alone and the scene file should be referred to back
here from there or vice versa. Confusing, isn't it? : )
The FAQ group has a post concerning posting.
The data looks good judging by the image, well done rendering it too.
