I think this is spot-on.

What about a dimly lit mud-walled chai khana (tea house) in some remote
Afghan valley? With bearded turbaned Afghans in traditional garb
lounging around a slightly indented samowar, on faded rugs spread over
the floor...

See you in Khyberspace!

Thanks clipka,

Would have taken me a lot longer without your advice/help on the correct finish
and radosity settings.

Sounds like a good idea for a scene, I tend not to include people in my scenes
as I prefer to go for realism (not everyones goal I know) and have no chance of
achieving this with people in the scene (I know some people manage this but I
really have no experience of modelling people).

Other than that I like the idea, maybe will give it a go after I complete the
current scene I am working on. Then if someone else wants to add the people I
will post the source.

I have an area between the paint and rust which has a crackle normal to attempt
to add a flakey paint surface, it doesn't show up that well in this render so a
few more tweaks may be required (although I sometimes end up tweaking so much I
never finish anything).

The secret to that is actually quite simple: Use Poser, DAZ Studio, or
any other such tool (though I currently know of none other than these
two), and export the figures with PoseRay. There's no other sane way if
you want to go for realism.

See? I told you that would be good starting points ;-)

There seems to be http://www.makehuman.org/ although I never used it.

That looks interesting, especially the Geisha project gallery. I did download
Poser several years ago but never really gave it enough time/effort. Will add
these to my ever growing to do list.

Does anyone have any preference between Poser and DAZ (I have never looked at
the latter).

There was some discussion about this on the TinaChep forum some time
ago... I am unable to find the exact link to the thread unfortunately at
present (-:

Personally, I much favour Poser above DAZ, more especially for the way
in which you can work with dynamic clothes, which I have been totally
unable to do in DAZ. Overall, although the first impression seems to
point otherwise, I find Poser to have much more freedom of use than DAZ.
