Hi all, I just learned that my 2011 POV-Ray render of a molecular pentafoil knot
just got the cover for the Feb 21 Chemical Society Review; finally a cover for
this shot!

Are we here at a contest of minimalism? There are only connectect cylinders to
be seen. Some of the worst pictures Robert ever gave IMO. Why did you adore him
so much?

It is not for the image but for getting published AND on the front
cover. That is an honour.

<Thinks> Maybe Michael is right.

Well done that man. ;-)

Congrats, Robert!

So... is this a real molecule, or an imaginary one? Did you use any 3rd party
tools, or is it all hand-coded?

Sam

This is an actual, IRL self-assembling pentafoil molecule; I call that
minimalism at its finest.

That said, I was merely given the model for this by the researchers, as spheres
and cylinders, which I blobbified and then gave a decent HDR lighting treatment.
It wasn't meant to be groundbreaking, simply illustrative and easy on the eyes
(and I thought the kitchen probe was a funny touch...)

It /must/ be because of my fantastic home brewed beer!

Really nice! And congrats.

Even the cover design itself adds to the superb render.

But just to nitpic...

Kidding!!

Well done. It cries out for a 3D version. Maybe just a simple anaglyph?
