OMG, that is a bad pun indeed. I don't think I would ever have gotten that.

Easier, but no less wretched.

Hardly needed clue:
Offensive to the Max, ...well?

Gilles Tran was absolutely correct.
It is a "red hare ring"(e.g. "red herring")

http://ask.yahoo.com/20010718.html

"Assuming" is a nearly universally bad thing, but I strongly suspect that the
pun in the second image will bet a good bit more obvious to most folks.

Best Regards,

Mike C.

But... when it became clear that he was not long for this world, his fellow
employees at the canning factory felt really bad about the shabby way in which
they had treated him and vowed to work extra hard in his memory. "Let's tin one
for the Ol' Kipper", they cried!

With insincere apologies,
Mike C.

Ooo, ooo, ooo... I got this one!
(I was too dense for the red hare ring.) :-(

But I don't want to give it away too soon, so I'll just say FM.

That's what I guessed too, but it doesn't seem to fit the clue.
