Thanks. Was my idea of a joke (one that took 5 1/2 hrs to render...)

Thanks. I came across this capability a few years ago when I was meddling
with tileable patterns. I occasionally dig out the code when I see a need.
I find that they are much more convincing than surface normals (for some
reason they always seem flat to me) and far faster than isosurfaces.
However they are somewhat limited to flat surfaces.

Any chance you could render this at a higher resolution so I can make it
my desktop image? ;-)

*checks*

Hmm, my monitor is set to 1280x1024... one of those weird aspect ratios
that isn't 4:3.

How slow is it? Would 1600x1200 take too long?

I'll run it, my laptop has the weekend off otherwise, so I have a good 60
hrs or so...

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i52/barberofcivil/RSoCP2.jpg

1600x1200

14.5 hrs
focal blur, radiosity, photons, 256 light sources

it looks slightly different from the original, as that scene wasn't quite
intact anymore, so I tried to recreate somewhat.

Let me know if you can't get it off photobucket. The file is ~1.25MB so I
can't really post it here.

HDRI based environment lighting macro I've been working on. (To be released
some time when I'm satisfied withit)

Sorry, didn't notice that. I've posted it to my deviantART gallery.

Hopefully this works for you.
