THANKS so much for sharing the details. This kind of heightfield generation
is new to me, too, and your lucid explanation is extremely helpful, far

Thanks. I came across this capability a few years ago when I was meddling
with tileable patterns. I occasionally dig out the code when I see a need.
I find that they are much more convincing than surface normals (for some
reason they always seem flat to me) and far faster than isosurfaces.
However they are somewhat limited to flat surfaces.

Hmm, my monitor is set to 1280x1024... one of those weird aspect ratios
that isn't 4:3.
How slow is it? Would 1600x1200 take too long?
