Hi,

can anyone tell me whats wrong with this image, The water (which looks like
engine oil) is too dark, yet if i remove the glass It is the perfect color.
It doesn't matter if i turn photons on or off or seemingly anything i do has
no effect, i've attached the .pov file too, pls help!

Marc

Everytime you have strange black spots in your scene, you can quickly think
about raising max_trace_level to above the default value 5 in
global_settings. I put max_trace_level 10 and it worked ok.

See the manual for more details, and remember to always look at the output
messages from povray for clues for things going wrong... It's displayed in
the Messages tab in PovWin and just regular text output in PovUnix...

It is to do with the small space you have between the water and the glass
surfaces, the glass is differenced with 0.03 and water is set to size
0.02999 set the water to 0.03 as well and the effect will be better, you
will also have to adjust the bottom surface of the water as you will have a
similar black effect there.

Hi Guys,

I suspect it's better to set a higher max_trace_level in the global
settings (setting it to 7 seems to cure the problem).
I reckon it would be safer to retain the size differences to avoid any
potential problems with coincident surfaces.
I think that setting the sizes the same only 'cured' the problem as it
brought the number of surfaces that the light passed through down to within
the default setting for max_trace_level.

Regards,
Chris B.
