Work in progress. What would you suggest? It's supposed to look other-worldly,
so strict realism is not an object.

Render time: 11:16:17 @ 640x480 no AA, I really need to look into this.

I like the colors and the wispy things.... why did it take so long to render? How
did you do this?

Appart from the strangely high render time... doesn't the ground look dark.......
nothing on it.... blades of crystal glass on this alien planet would look
cool......

So far this looks great. The sky is so dark that I'd expect to see at least a few
faint stars in the upper right hand corner. I can't wait to see what you do with
the ground. Sorry about those long render times , tho. That's excessive for a test
scene.

very nice. I like it alot. especially the lines going across the sky
that looks like an airplane flew by.

Looks Protoss... it really needs big, glowing crystals, and maybe some
spacecraft. A few start would help, too, or maybe a moon, a big
star... but these are all cliches. They might spoil the otherwise very
catching image. If you can think of something unique (like a wet bird
:) ) you might as well throw all those cliches in.

So you do play something other than descent. I was beginning to worry ...

Thanks for the comments; thought I'd reply summarily.

The ground will indeed have crystal formations (I will merge the cloudscape with
the 'Violet Dawn' scene posted here some time ago).

The lines across the sky are supposed to be rings around the planet (I hope
that's what it would look like, haven't really seen one :)

The clouds and atmosphere are media, the cyan part is ground fog. There are
three cloud layers, but only the low cumulus layer is scattering media, the rest
is absorbing & emitting. That's why I'm a bit surprised at the render time.

A few stars might be a good idea, perhaps a moon too, but overall I don't want
to make the image too crowded - it's basically a desert landscape.

Yellow and/or Orange highlights in the sky... Maybe some red somewhere... ???
