Hey there, this will be my first post, and I hear there is a tradtion. I
figured I won't break it, else the world might end.

This took 5 hours and 40 minutes to render, most likely because of my tiny
amount of RAM, 128 MB to be exact.

Have a nice day.

Ah, the old, beloved reflective sphere on checkered plane...

Nice version I might say. Arealights, probably isosurfaces
for the tiles, antialiasing... I like it.

Welcome to the groups then! Have a look around
and enjoy your stay!

Regards,
Tim

Thank you very much. I've been checking your work out and I must say that
it is impressive. Especially that one with the blobs and the media. Don't
remember what it was called. Sorta orange-pink tinge to it.

And yeah, isosurface bricks placed with loops of course, one arealight and
antialiasing.

I haven't figured out isosurfaces very well yet. I just used rounded_box
and noise_3D. I hear that those pigment functions look pretty good. I'll
have to check it out sometime.

Thanks again!

Welcome!

You might be interested in knowing that it's possible to cut down rendertime
a lot by optimising the isosurfaces / converting them to heightfields or
triangles meshes. Your amount of RAM should be more than enough for this
render, since isosurfaces uses almost zero RAM but they can get very slow.
If you convert them to triangles, RAM usage will increase but it doesn't
have to too much. For example, if you settle for 10 different bricks (each
one an individual mesh) you can copy the meshes around the whole area
without using more memory (almost) and it's gonna render like a ... dream..
Well I mean fast. ;o)

Anyway isosurfaces are fun, and it's useful to know how they work. It's the
first time I see a traditional first-post using them, so I'm impressed.

Regards,
Hugo
