render time just over 8 hours inc parse, modelled in rhino, scene laid out
in moray, mangled by hand.....

mega pov defiantly does not like shorthand translations and rotations!

eg
rotate -27.0*z

as outputted by moray works fine in mega pov until you put the version line
in, and it chokes. (error is expected } but found * instead)

after manually altering all the rotations and translations, I discover that
the camera is now not pointing in the exact same direction as before, gave
up and moved the bottle a bit closer, so the final render is not exactly the
view I was aiming for, but don't the photons look pretty (grr)

I am not a pov coder, that's the reason I use moray. I only wish either
moray
would not use shorthand, or megapov would not choke on it (only in mega pov
mode I might add)

oh yeah, forgot to mention - the reason it has the povray.co.uk bg again, is
that i am going to put this and the mug in the object library when i
eventually get those parts written :)

that and i wanted to have a 2 tone repeting floor that was not a checkered
plane.

Nice work.

I like the meniscus on the oil, though maybe the curvature shouldn't stop so
suddenly it should gradually become flat. how about a Povray label on the
bottle?

Nice, i'm only missing reflection photons.

Maybe a version without the thread and a with cork would look more
adequate for oilve oil, right now it looks a bit like a bottle of medicine
:-)

BTW, how long does it take to model such a thing in rhino?

I'm regularly using such shortcuts but never had problems in megapov.

is rotate z*-27.0 okay? (I've never had a problem with shorthand*)

*well, I did have a problem, but it was my problem, not povs

I've never had any problem with them, and use them fairly often, but I
usually reverse things from what you showed:
rotate -z*27
My first thought is that it must be something to do with promoting the
float value of 27 to a vector before multiplying by z, but the error
message seems to indicate it messes up before then...and as far as I
know, that section of the code hasn't been messed with, except for
adding a ^ operator, and it works in other cases...

BTW, what is the ior of oil? And it might be nice to have the light
coming from the other direction, so the caustics aren't hidden by the
bottle as much.

yes that works fine as far as I know, however

rotate -27.0*z

as outputted by moray is a no no

couple of hours, and that's considering I don't know what I am doing :)
