A modified version of a demo scene for glows. A total of 5052 glows in
this scene...5000 of which are a half-hearted attempt at a starfield.
The glows are colored using the convert_color() function, the ones in
front with a HSV color with random hue, saturation 1, and a "V"
("value"?) of 1. The "stars" are from a HSL color with random hue,
saturation 1, and a "L" ("luminance"?) of 0.85.
Oh, and the star density is controlled with a bozo pattern by using
eval_pattern(), though it isn't very noticeable.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the render time...it could have been
anywhere between 30 minutes and 7.5 hours, since I started this just
before I left for school.

The overall effect is very cool. Some of the glows seem to terminate too
abruptly (especially the stars); would this be easy to control/fix?

That is because I specified a cutoff radius for those glows. It
basically performs just enough calculations to figure out the distance
from the glow and stops if outside that radius...not quite bounding or
clipping, but with similar results. If it isn't specified, the glows are
essentially infinite.
I actually specified a radius for the stars that was too large, I want
to constrain the effect of the "stars" to a very small area, even though
it will give an abrupt edge. The closer glows in the area of the sphere
do not have this cutoff radius.

It's beautiful for a demo scene, Chris. If I had a faster machine I'd
love to render an animation with the starfield rotating around the
vertical axis of the reflective sphere. Gave me the impression of
Christmas lights in the night sky <s>.
Which version of MegaPOV or MegaPOVplus are you using for this scene,
or is this a development version of your glows patch?

Screw a starfield, put those lights on a christmas tree. :)
Not realistic but very a "christmas card" image. You could probably
sell it.

It is a development version of MegaPOVPlus, with a convert_color()
function, an updated glow patch, and a few other things.

Hmm, reading it as Portuguese, Babelfish says:

As Spanish, it says:

Well, thanks.
