Yes, you are right Christoph: The first image uses 2 patterns
that are also used in the second image. The second has an
additional pattern and uses some other mathematical operators.

it is possible to create some highfields of your mountains ?
Can you post the Povray-sourcefile of your experiments here?
I have no ideas how to create them in Povray.
