This theme has appeared many times and here it comes once again. The
scene was rendered in macmegapov .4 with antialiasing and radiosity on.
A low density scattering media was also used.
The wall has a granite normal and a wrinkles pigment. Rendered at 800 x
600 the size was reduced to 640 x 480.
Peak memory used 3.6 Mb, rendering time 9 hours.

Beautyfull.
It has a "simplicity" / serenity I like.
May I suggest the use of an arealight to soften the shadows (watch the
render time)?

Very nice. I agree with ingo that it would benefit from area lights.

Um, got a echo of the original post here. Not good. Must've been a html reply
to a html message post.
What is good however is this little scene, sparse as it may be. Something about
the contrast bothered me so I put it through PSP and upped the contrast quite a
bit (42 on the slider) and also brightness some (16 on it's slider).
See what you think of the change, I like it much better myself. Oh, and I
reduced the size by half as well so it wouldn't be a bother to retrieve my reply
;-)

Alberto's vase is very good indeed: the surroundings are well done and do
enhance the whole picture IMHO. But I agree with you, Bob, that the contrast
and brightness you have given it shows the whole scene at its best. I very
often touch up my renders that way, too.

I like this. I like the details that make it look realistic; The rust stain
and surfacing on the wall, the bevelling on the bench and the window (some
people don't bother to bevel, thus detracting from realism, as nothing in
real life isn't bevelled to some degree), the nail/screw holes in the bench,
and the well modeled and textured vase. The lid is a nice touch.
