hey thanks again thomas... took some playing but i finally got it. i 
replaced the disc i was using as the ground with a mesh i made in 
blender. pushed and pulled the surface in a couple of places then 
smoothed. i have it now with a downward slope towards the camera

good idea... this is going to be an abandoned camp so i think a couple 
of jawa's here and there (scrounging) and some tumbleweeds too

Thanks Robert. And it is so simple to implement! I came very late to 
pigment_patterns, but I am going to use it more and more in future. 
Admittedly, you have to tweak the code repeatedly until you get it 
exactly as you want, but it is worth the effort indeed.

Fun thing about this particular image: the basic image_maps I 
downloaded, have - for some of them - a copyright ghost-printed 
diagonally across the images. Embedded into the pigment_pattern, that 
print disappears and is incorporated into the final result. :-)

And for those who were wondering what to do this week-end the challenge becomes:
lets reverse-engineer this image and find out what was written in the copyright
! ;-)

Tumbleweeds ? There are no tumbleweeds on Tatooine.
