This is a much better model, I like your use of irid definitely an under used
feature.
I have just started playing with sculptris, I never got my head around blender
but intend to give it another go at some point. Sculptris however is amazingly
easy to use.

hah, I used the plugin Mesh -> Extra-Objects -> Gears :)
that, and subsurface modifier and a bit of editing to get creased edges

hey ... that works too ;-) i seem to be able to get better beveling
control with curves. when all's said and done i convert them to mesh
before export
