Yeah, more doodling. After all the massive scenes I've been doing, I
thought I'd try something on a little smaller scale. I also thought I'd
dig out those isosurfaces that I've been ignoring. Maybe I'll build a
lighthouse.

How about some wooden platforms/boardwalks? More difficult, I know, but...

Nice, as usual ;) Are those roots I see down at the water line? Pretty cool. I
see what looks like iron-rich pockets in the stone. A major vacation in the
cliff side also shows iron-like deposits on it's lip, possibly indicating that a
ruddy pocket was worn away by weathering. Which looks rather convincing!

The trees look pretty good, convincing in many places. The shading also
harmonizes with the landmass in a good way. Maybe some ocean weathering on the
trees would enhance the realism of this render?

Any way, it looks like it would be a fun place to explore! Your image is
inspiring :)

Sam

Well, I used the same functions to texture it as I did to create the
isosurface, so it made it easy to make the crevices darker. Still it
doesn't quite look like rock to me yet--could use some more work.

never stop the doodling! Man, your pictures always have such an oil
painting feel...

I join my praize to Sam's here.

Maybe you are not entirely satisfied with the rock because this type of
weathering is expected on a smaller scale? I have seen this kind of
rocks/weathering in Southern France amongst others, but at a factor 10
smaller overall if not more.

Thomas

A "doodle"?

I'd like to see more full scenes coming close to the level of your
doodles ;)

Ah! Thomas, you're right! Perhaps this is a bit of an improvement?
