Well, I used the same functions to texture it as I did to create the
isosurface, so it made it easy to make the crevices darker. Still it
doesn't quite look like rock to me yet--could use some more work.

never stop the doodling! Man, your pictures always have such an oil
painting feel...

I join my praize to Sam's here.

Maybe you are not entirely satisfied with the rock because this type of
weathering is expected on a smaller scale? I have seen this kind of
rocks/weathering in Southern France amongst others, but at a factor 10
smaller overall if not more.

A "doodle"?

I'd like to see more full scenes coming close to the level of your
doodles ;)

Ah! Thomas, you're right! Perhaps this is a bit of an improvement?

Actually, now that I've posted it, it doesn't look so different from the
old one...

<grin> indeed. It doesn't matter though, because it is a great rock anyway.
Photorealism is not necessarily to be achieved here.

In terms of weathering/erosion by the sea, I suppose that the surface would
be smoother, with the weathered holes above the sea level, or as notches
within the area between high and low tide. Notches in fact would be a great
improvement and would look very natural.

Heh, thanks. Well, I've got another one of those weekends of
never-ending class. We'll see what comes out.
