Absolutely true. Several years ago, I was supervising a drilling site in the
Portuguese dunes. The sound of the drill rig was very rythmic and
repetitive, and soon enough it transformed in my head into a melodious kind
of symphony by a whole orchestra. If I had been a composer, I would have
noted down the melody and orchestration and would now be known as the author
of "The Drill Rig Symphony in b flat" :-)

Well, if you'd named it "Satori," i might have seen more Buddhas and fewer
queens, but overall kings and queens would still have been in the mix. My
first impression was of an eastern tapestry, with the ornate baroque character
coming out only after poring over the image for a while.
I was surprised that other people didn't see Buddhas.

Nice. Well I have a couple if frogs in my apartment along with a colony
of crickets. The frogs don't make much noise but the crickets are
another thing entirely. Still waiting for the din to cohere though.

Well apparently I remembered it wrong, anyway but Snow Crash is a Neal
Stephenson novel about a virus. But the speading virus may not have
been necessarily a visual pattern like I remembered.

Had never pictured you as that,... though I guess that explains your
knowledge of geology and related things.

I am a geologist... :-)
However, to refine the picture, this was not an oil rig, but a fairly small
device for research purposes. We didn't go deeper than 45m...

RL took it's toll yesterday. I thought I saw a message from Sam saying that the
