The way in which checkers are constantly appearing everywhere is disturbing.
An official investigation should be conducted about the (hidden) motives of
those individuals who want to make us see the world in a different aspect
from that which is the only true, comprehensive and recognized one by
governments, churches and non-governmental organizations.
Very nice image!!!

But there are no photons in your scene?
Looking at your source you are missing the object photons in the difference:
photons{ target 1.0 refraction on reflection on }.
And perhaps a interior statement with ior value to make the photons more
interesting.

Arf, true. Seems that I forgot the object-part of photons, I just
activated them from global_settings.
Alltough, the scene seems to take it gently - I still think it's
successful :D.
Now I'm just wondering would I've won hours keeping the global photons
disabled :p.

True. But playing with ior would've propably make it too glassy at first
for my goal.

Not that much, less than 5 minutes to shoot photons, sone seconds more during
the rendering itself.

And that would have taken more time: adding total internal relfection.

Plus the time to tweak it :). Somehow I can't accept the first ior
settings i create. I always have to tweak and tweak them to see the
extreme ends before searching the final goal.
Now that scene was one-night project :).

I revived my old image. I widened the scene a bit and rendered a
superwide version for my friend to use as a background on a 3-monitor
setup. Though I would share here also.

Interesting.
Not sure I understand /what/ I am looking at, but interesting
nonetheless ;-)

Despite the fact that the actual image contest is named "This is not a checkered
Plane" (Tina CheP) this is a fine image, still with this classic topic. But it
could really be improved by using photons to show caustics. A good use of it
would make the difference between a simple sphere above a checkered plane and an
artwork.
Best regards,
Michael
