I agree .. it's the sort of shaggy carpet I picture (in an off-white --
no checkers) fitting nicely into Tim Nikias' 'Windows' scene

Cheers!

Yeah, a Greek flokati... with a long-haired hippie dude loafing on it!
Not to forget the famous Zappa toilet poster on the wall! Really radical
chic - 70s rule!!!

See you in Khyberspace!

Someone else noted it:

That bookshelf is frustratingly crammed against that couch. Is this
scene a model of a room you have seen in real life?

Very nicely done living room, btw. You even got a reasonable facimile of
  the "popcorn" ceiling material! :)

He got my wife to arrange the furniture. That's her signature style.

I'm sitting in it. Ok there's no rug, reflective sphere, or any couches
yet. There are however 1.5 lovely orange futons and curtains and a TV.
The colour scheme is not entirely accurate - the walls are two tone and
the floor carpet is cream.

I don't think there is much choice about where to put the book shelf or
couches. Somehow I think it looks better in that corner than in front of
the doors, windows or TV. You'll still be able to get at all the shelves
(apart from the bottom two) when you stand infront of the couch.

Part of the reason for doing this scene was to help visualise how much
space the sofas would take.

If any of you (or your wife :-P Jim) have any better suggestions for
where to put the DVD and video covered bookshelf let me know.
(Suggestions that don't involve buying a bigger house - only just moved
into this one)

Thanks. I wasn't sure how to do a swirly artex ceiling so I settled for
a generic textured ceiling. I think I'd probably prefer a plain one
anyway....

Eventually some day no newbies will ever again come to povray, as the
standard for quality RSOCP will be unreachable in anyone's "first post" .

Thanks I'll take that as an entertainingly oblique complement. I suppose
my offering is one of the least minimalistic RSOCPs that I've seen. Ah
well there's a new IRTC topic soon.

If people keep writing good docs and providing example scenes and
tutorials, POV should keep getting new recruits.

That's what I was thinking. When my post #300 is surpassed by others'
"first posts" (this one, definitely, as well as a few others recently), it
might be time to find a new hobby.

Nah. I'm addicted.

Anyway, great post, absolutely!

Welcome! (Sorry I'm late :)

Excellent! Here's my latest version of the sofa (not using LightSys) which
was Jaime's armchair. I think I'd better reduce the reflection...
