Realistically, the cobbles should be worn smoother than this as they've
had people/horses/wagons/cars/whatever on them for X years (and if
they're old enough, lots of rain). And as someone else pointed out, some
of the stones appear to be merging together. Other than that, they look
great.

That leaf could use some shine.

don't be surprised if you find more unnatural things around you if you look
closely :-)

Thanks Jim.

The problem with the leaf is that I'm using a bicubic patch with an
image/bump map of the leaf on it, with alpha channel for transparency.
When I put some positive specular, the whole square patch shows up...

Therefore I think I need to make it look more decayed perhaps...

As I was telling Jim, the way I modeled the leaf does not let me put
some shiny finish on it, or the whole bicubic patch is visible...

Thanks for your comments :)

The cobbles are a 16-bit png heightfield, with a stone image map for
pigment and granite normal. Then there is a plane to change the color of
the "soil" between the cobbles. I tried to make it look like water, but
my results were not satisfactory... but I may still try later, perhaps
with HDR...

The leaf is a bicubic patch with an image/bump map with alpha channel.

I'm glad you liked it :)

Actually, in my original plan, I wanted to make puddles of water, but I
didn't like my first results. I'll try to continue playing with the
scene, but it's difficult to find free time!

I love cobbled streets, I'm happy that you liked it.

I know! Actually there were a few that I fixed by hand in the
heightfield... but it seems I overlooked a few :)

Perhaps I can fix it with Photoshop to avoid rerendering the scene :)
(~ 30 hours)

Thanks,

Fernando
