High!

While I meanwhile solved my last problem mentioned in p.b.s-f., a new
one emerged: the Sun's media glow is not visible through the transparent
parts of Saturn's ring (near the right edge of the image). Is this
inevitable - or are there possibilities to straighten this out?

The whole scene is meant as cover artwork for a PoV-Ray data CD
containing textures and heightfields for the planets and moons of the
Solar System...

try adding the hollow modifier to the object representing Saturn's rings.

Or increase the max trace level.

Neither "hollow" nor increasing the max_trace_level worked, the latter
not even at 256 and with adc_bailout set to 0! Now I tried replacing the
original disc object by a very thin cylinder - and the rings disappeared
completely!

Very strange...

How thin compared to the other dimentions? If the thickness is very low
(0.000 000 1 or less) and the larger other values around 1000 or more,
the rounding may play trick on you. A realistic thickness could be
around 1/10 000 Saturn's radius.

The radius of my rings cylinder is about 137000 (1 unit = 1 km), its
thickness is 20, so I wonder why this occurred... recently, I went
troubleshooting and found out that it seems to have something to do with
the texture - but I didn't modify it in any way since the rendering with
the disc object!
