Thanks!
Room for improvement, certainly. I have still to decide about the sky and
the positioning/scaling of the dune field. Also, not yet entirely happy with
the cacti.

Yes, The effect came as a bonus from the slope/altitude settings of the
texture_map. With AA, the effect is less pronounced of course.
I wonder if I should not put in some more erosion overall...

Thanks!!
No AA was used in this render. With AA the scene becomes much smoother of
course.
The saguaro still need some attention indeed.
You know, it is mostly trial and error to get this, and trying different
types of functions and their combination. But the tutorials help, yes,
Christoph's, and Mike Williams' too.

The advantage is that you don't have to create everything from scratch. Some
are quite detailed, a few have errors, but overall, I am quite satisfied
with them. You still can buy the collections, even with little harddisk
space. Just use the included CD's when you need them.

Hey Thomas!
wel doen :)
I quite like the rock shape, the cati and the sand.
My 1st impression is "Ik heb dorst!" (three among few Deutch *survival*
words I know)
My 2nd impression, though I'm not a geologician, is erosion should be
oriented as sediment layers (bright/harder layers less eroded following
softer/darker more eroded layers)
But I may be completely wrong

Very nice work anyway

Thanks Marc! The next version will be even better (IMO)...

Well... there is always a canal to jump into ;-D

No, you are right, and in a sense this is also what happens in this scene,

here, but then, who cares??
Other erosion patterns are less evident and follow the faults and diaclases
in the rocks. Perhaps you could say that the foreground is a little bit like
that.
In fact, the used texture should more or less follow the pattern shown, but
the use of slope/altitude has obscured that for a large part. I prefer it
that way.

indeed! I have experimented with it here, but it does not add anything
significant to this scene, except extremely long render times. So I left
that out (for the time being).
