I'm not sure what you're seeing. The TV is a solid CSG object (a box with a
bunch of stuff diferenced out of it)... no planes involved.

I've had planes appear in my CGS's before. For example if one of the pieces
you differenced out of your box had a co-incident surface with the side of
the box it could leave just that plane sticking out by itself. Look at the
circled areas in the attached picture. Why are there wooden teeth sticking
down into the top of the TV? Is this something sitting on top of the TV?
Maybe I'm just not looking at it correctly but it looks odd to me.

I think it's just the lighting. Here's a close up with brighter lights.
The top of the TV is the top of the grey frame around the picture. There is
a gap between the top of the TV and the top of the cabinet. There is a wood
back on the cabinet that can be seen over the top of the TV.

Could the proximity of old Rod Sierling explains those phenomenons. After
all he controls the horizontals and verticals of our TV screens, I bet he
could do it with a monitors too ^________^

Gilles made a pretty good lamp which you can see here, and download the
source as well.

I'm not saying you should replace the lamp, but it may give you some ideas
from the source. But with the lamp turned on, it takes a looooong time to
render, so keep that in mind.

The 'teeth' (for lack of a better word) are still there and it doesn't
look like the lighting to me. Could you render just the TV by itself
against a white background? I tend to think its a co-incident surface
artifact.

Is the top of your TV shiny? I agree with Carl, there seems to be something
wrong... To me the outline of the TV looks like this:

--
/*Francois Labreque*/#local a=x+y;#local b=x+a;#local c=a+b;#macro P(F//
/*    flabreque    */L)polygon{5,F,F+z,L+z,L,F pigment{rgb 9}}#end union
/*        @        */{P(0,a)P(a,b)P(b,c)P(2*a,2*b)P(2*b,b+c)P(b+c,<2,3>)
/*   videotron.ca  */}camera{orthographic location<6,1.25,-6>look_at a }

I found the problem... a misplaced bounded_by/clipped_by statement. I would
have never spotted it... thanx dudz. One day I'll finish this pic (the back
of tv isn't contoured like the real thing... it's just a box).
