The one here is easier to tell that they're the same, just kinda look
at it with your eyes a bit out of focus and not looking AT the squares.

I can't see them as the same until I block nearly all else except a shadowed
one and one in direct light, some of the surrounding checkers can still be
seen partially though. I tried as you suggested, covered one eye and focused
on my other hand nearer to me and off to the side enough to see the image.
Still the illusion. Tried that with the three different ones. Probably a lot
to do with how perception works for different individuals I'd guess.

Colour is relative ;)

Probably has something to do with the fact that my vision sucks, and I
can do some pretty weird stuff with my eyes.

Could you please post the source. I would like to make a 1024x768 version of it.
Thanks,
Bret

Is done, can be found at povray.binaries.scene-files. I almost forgot to get
the originators name added to the scene file so I had to cancel the first
posting, hopefully only the final one is seen there.

I should say that the rendering took 30 minutes (guess I did before) on my
800MHz notebook, at 512X384 using AA of 0.2 depth 2 and method 2. A four
fold increase shouldn't take too long if your computer is up to it. Rather
plain, ordinary image file for a day long render though. :-)
