I had a feeling that this was goign to go somewhere. It did. I regularly
visit our local graveyard to tend an unattended gravestone. No that the
groundskeepers aren't doing their job, but they don't scraper off the little
bits of moss or waipe off the rainstains. They also don't stop to think
about who Shelby MCadams and her un-named newborn child (1953) were. I don't
imagine that they are there, under the dirt, but their marker is all I have
to stand next to. It is, as far as I can tell, their only mark on this
world. Over the last 20 years that I know of, I am the only one that has
brought flowers.

And that the focal_blur shows there is not any drop on focus... I was
just about to complaing about this on the second image, now I understand
why. Perhaps both problems can be solved with some more planes...
Anyhow, this is going to be a very nice scene, Gail. I feel rain scenes
are specially suited for focal blur, and on your scene it seems to enhance
the theme.

I know. Without the blur the rain looks like it's at various distances,
especially in
a scene like this where there isn't much in the foreground.

It can to a degree, the texture needs to be adjusted every time a plane is
added to
keep the number of droplets more or less constant

I like the one with focal blur best. I also think you should maybe add some more
headstones or put tiny, paler versions of the flowers back in, particularly to
the left. Just something to add some balance to the picture without competing
for viewer attention.

Gail,
I prefer this version. I actually think the image would be more poignant if
the rose were in the water - as if the hard rain had washed it off the stone.
We'd have a better shot a reading the inscription too, if you mean for it to
be read.
Finally, I expect it is intended, but why is this grave stone alone? My answer
- It is a relatively new grave in which case perhaps the grass whould be a bit
less developed over the grave site?

There's a story behind this, I'll post the story when I post the final
version, Next week sometime.

That one does seem to be the most popular, and the longest to render (15hrs)

I'm going to add a few small flowers scattered in the grass
