Another version of that German bomber I have been working on forever.  This
time with the landing gear down, a little radiosity, and some granulated
reflection blur.  One more quick shot from the back and then I am laying
this model down to rest.

Oh, very nice. Lots of detail. I can imagine feeling
very vulnerable as the pilot with just glass infront

What did you use to model her? How big are the source files
collectively?

I used Rhinoceros for the modeling, although I'm sure its entirely possible
to do the entire thing in POV-script like Nekar's car or in spatch.  Being
my second model let me just say that the meshes are monstrous and the detail
is not on the same resolution.  I didn't want to sacrifice any detail so I
went for overkill.  The meshes and textures come out at just over 400 MB.
However, even the original Rhinoceros file was probably around 60 MB or so.
I can send you the files if you truly desire but it may take awhile.  ;)

Thanks.  This one never flew.  The design didn't get past a wind tunnel
model, but it would have been impressive to see if it had been built.

Thanks Tim.  Some action sounds like an idea. However, I'd have to revert
back from 3.5 to MegaPOV 0.7 because the motion blurring I used to make the
props spin was removed in the new version.  :P

I don't know if you're using this trick, but you can to take advantage of
the ability of Povray to replicate meshes at not cost. This is quite helpful
for Rhino models because they tend to be very large. For example, just
export the half of a symmetrical object (like the hull and wings), or only
one instance of a repeated object (like the engines and wheels). Because the
positioning within Rhino can be easily done within Povray (same
coordinates), it's not very difficult and has other advantages (like being
able to make the propellers turn within Povray). Doing so, I was able to
reduce the size of a 500 Mb model of bike to a "mere" 100 Mb.
Nice model BTW.

Thanks for the tips Gilles.  Of course I was using mesh replications when
duplicating whole aircraft, but my next model will take full advantage of
this feature--mirroring parts and etc.  Much time will be saved having
reduced parse times with the dozens of test renders that I do before a final
render.

You can have a look at the thread "Motion blur in pov 3.5" (Nov 11 2001)
where this problem was discussed. I posted a short example of how the effect
could (perhaps) be achieved with 3.5.
