Ah! That's what it's called! A ' Blood Channel' ? Ie, a groove for the blood to
run down?? - Obviously.
Eek!! ;)
Heheh.. I was thinking more along the lines of the actual manufacture of the
sword. Don't they usually have 'bevelled' angles to
the blade? (Possibly with a groove too?)
The whole cross section being a thin/narrow diamond shape? I'm very possibly
wrong, so forgive me for *digging* too deep with
this... <..sheesh....> ;)

Actually, the main purpose was to release suction on the blade and make
it easier to remove from your opponents body IIRC...

oops...common misconception...
True purpose of the fullered groove in a blade is to reduce weight and add
strength. (If you don't have the strength to give the blade a bit of a
twist when pulling it out, you didn't have the strength to put it in there
either.)

I would suggest the focal point on the name-plaque (or what ever it is
called), perhaps a little bit up and to the left. Start with some arbitrary
aperture. I don't know what will look better: some strong blurring, or just
a tiny bit.
