How would you recommend I go about working on the metal texture?

Hmm... the dart I modeled dosen't seem to be partially transparent... are
most darts that way?

Thanks for the input!

To which part are you referring, the angular cut on the grip (points on
lathe)?

Or to the differenced cylinders in the grip itself?

Thanks!

Cool! How about adding a regular but bumpy normal to the copper part to make
it look like it has some grip.

Interesting addition. Although it adds to the picture, the real dart I
modeled had no such "grip".... maybe I have cheap darts :-)

Thanx!!!

I think it's down to the finish statement, maybe add some thong size
and roughness to it, like thong_size 40, roughness 0.0001 or soemthing
like that, and maybe a touch of specular.

I'm sure that even the ones that aren't particularly transparent do allow
light to pass through, so you get a double illuminated effect. You see
something simil with individual sheets of paper in a room that has only
one light source, you can't see through the paper but you can see the
light coming through it no matter what direction you're facing. This is
considered to be an advanced effect so if you can pull it off you will
be doing very well.

Oops, just spelling as I'd say it :-)

Very cool ideas:
-As others have suggested focal blur (on the dart)
    -Try Megapov's motion blur...
-Less specular on the grip (it better not be smooth)

Thanks for so much input. I have been working on a new version, adding
several of the suggested items.
