Looks great either as short haired fur or velvet.
I would never have thought of using a negative IOR.
To quote Vroomfondel on this: 'I think our brains must be
to highly trained, Majikthise'
But if the POV developers allows fysically impossible
values, who am I to complain.

If I were you, I'd market your texture as -the- definitive velvet of Povray.
This is really a great texture!

It doesn't look like fur as such, but it's still exelent. It's more like
velvet.

If the rendering time is not above 5 minutes, I'd accept it.. Looks good,
but media is said to be too slow.

Hmm, very different method, but very similiar to Rune's "fur" texture. His looks
like velvet too...

I don't know a link to any info, but I remember reading about some highly
ionised gas, plasma, or similar, etc that had a negative index of
refraction. I'll look into it. As another interesting point, I read a few
weeks ago about a reasearch group who had found a material with such high
IOR properties that it actually stopped the light dead - ie reduced it
velocity to zero and suspended the photons in a gas - which makes it very
useful for optical computers.

here are some links for negative IOR and 'slow' light

http://physicsweb.org/article/world/14/9/12 -IOR

http://physicsweb.org/article/world/14/9/8 - slow light

Very nice image, but could you please post the complete source for
this scene?

Thanks
Sven

Yes, please!

I'll render it on a falling piece of fabric that i've got here. (It's
triangle mesh but it should be possible.)
