Columns. Inspired by a photo of an abandoned water reservior.

The scene contains 448 lights in a scattering media and took over a week to
render @2200x1700 on a Celeron 400.

That is pretty damned impressive - not only the image, but the time it
took.

Instead of using lights, can't you use radiosity? That might end up
taking just as much time but might improve the quality of the render?

Very nice image! I like the water, although an isosurface might have
looked better where it meets the columns.

Nice. Only a week for 2200x1700 on a Celeron 400? ;)

It's the Balmain reservior in Sydney. The original photo is at

I tried that. The scene rendered faster but completely lost its
atmospheric feel. I'm going to stick with lights at the moment.

The render time is bad enough as it is without an isosurface. If anything
I'll use a function heightfield--basically all the benefits without quite
as much of a time hit.

After looking at the picture, I would suggest to give those lights
more red/yellow or to take away some blue - it looks too cold for now.

It looks nice foggy, btw.

That's a beautiful image, and such a simple idea.
