I came up with the idea on the 12th, since I had been too much in shock on
the 11th to do anything myself. I started tweaking Gilles' grass macro late
on the night of the 12th, and then really got into this on the 13th. I meant
to have it ready yesterday, but the grass just kept coming out all wrong. I
still don't much like it. It looks unnatural, as you can see the rows in the
distance. I also made a bit of a mistake with the Star of David, not cutting
out the triangle properly from the stone pillar. At any rate, I hope the
image conveys the feeling of infinity and sorrow I intended. This isn't just
about those killed in the attacks on the 11th, but about us, as a world
under seige by terrorism, that has lost so many of its children to these
terrorist monsters. The render features crosses, stars of David, markings
for people of unknown faiths or who chose not to have any, and yes, a few
crescent moons, not for those who flew the planes, but for any good and
innocent Muslims that died in this or any other attack. Thank you. Any good
criticism on this image will be implemented in the final version, which I
will render at 1600x800 or bigger, for printing.

Fantastic image! only thing i have to critisize is the fog/haze... it makes
it look like it is a early morning picture but if that is the case, then the
lighting/sky is all wrong. IMHO the grass looks like either astroturf or sod.
so the grass looks realish. also IMHO i'd have a person kneeling infront of one
of the tombstones weeping, But i am not you and i do admit you are a far better
artist than i am. but Overall I'd say this is a stunning picture. and Thank
you for the dedication to all who lost their lives on Sept 11...

one of the many mourners who weep for thousands,
Jeremy

It's meant to be the dust/smoke left in the air from the collapsed
buildings. It's more symbollic than realistic.

Realistic grass ain't easy... even with the help of macros like Gilles. But
I agree it could use some work.

Characters are the one thing that is sorely missing in my renders. I could
get Poser, or something...

Again, thanks.

It's the least I can do. I certainly can't do much else for America all the
way down here in Panama.

This is a fantastic image, Tony...thanks for creating it. The image is
bright, but the haze gives it an uneasy, never-ending feel, and, sadly, I
think that sums things up pretty well.

Hi Tony, I really like this image, but I can't see any of the
crescent moons.

The way the text is placed and how it looks makes it look like
a professional piece of work, congrats.

They should be hiding somewhere in the back. In my latest version, you can
make out 3 quite clearly.
