That happens because diffuse 0.6, being the default anyway, will saturate
with the mirror pigment after a few bounces of rays.

Ah yes. I was using a white pigment on the mirrors. So should I increase or
decrease the diffuse?

My guess would be to use less of a diffuse, so that light doesn't affect the
mirror as much...but then again, I never really tried doing what you're
doing, so that's just a guess :-)

"Mirrahs?" You from New England?  : )

I did this once way back when with Pov 2.1...it makes for some neat
effects if you use two perfect reflecting planes (one behind the camera
and one behind the object) and leave the rest of the scene completely
black. The single object will fade off into copy after copy of itself.

I'd suggest a max trace level of at least 10, depending on resolution.
That should be good enough for 800x600
