I'm working on this scene of a starship battle above some miscellaneous
planet. The ships are meshes and the planet is a simple, very, large,
bumpy sphere. I haven't added the lasers yet; I've written the code, but
I haven't put it in yet. Questions? Comments?

Questions:
Why a bmp? Try using a png if you don't want to suffer from jpeg
noise.
Comments:
I like the ships, better texture and some media for thrusters and they
should look good. (If you're using MegaPov rather than Standard Pov,
try some motion blur and/or glows.)

Oops. Didn't think of using a png... I'll work on the thrusters, but what
would you suggest for a better texture?

At the moment they look like flat shaded polygons (with a hint of
reflection), more akin to software 3d Renderers for games, not a snap
shot of your imagination.
I think the best approach for texturing those kind of shapes would be
to use image_maps (i.e. Draw a detailed texture in your favourite art
program and project it onto the appropriate parts of the mesh.)
Examples of what can by done by this method, (and other examples of
superb texture work) can be found at Howard's site...

sigh, I wish I could texture like this :-(

I have added lasers beams, explosions, an odd texture to the ships, etc.
For some reason I can't apply a media to one triangle of the mesh.
Anyone know how I can confine the emmitting media to one spot?

I've added glowing spheres for thrusters; not much else has changed.
