Just playing with a spider I modelled for the next IRTC.
I'm working on the textures just now (in the final scene this should look
like a REAL spider...), but I haven't got good ones yet... and I think that
good textures make the difference here.
Feedback and (usefull) suggestions are as always welcome.
JRG.

Wow! What program did you use? Any chance of getting a front shot. I can't
find any good clean spider pics and could use some inspiration.

MegaPov, fully coded.
In the following picture the "robot" nature of the spider is much more
visible (in the png version the laser is much more bright).
Jonathan.

A 'Terminator' type of spider fits well within the description of the topic.

You would just have to figure out how to give it a bit of an Arnold aspect.

A challenge would be to use the Terminator idea and model after the movie
scenes that show the underlying metal beneath the psuedo flesh exterior.

Yikes !!!!
   But can it spin steel webbing to trap it's prey ?
   The hairs or bristles make it look more organic than
robotic but they do look cool. Perhaps the eyes could
become canopies over cockpits for the pilots, gunners.

  As an aside ... I love that plane ... just a dark plane
with reflection and a sky sphere ? Values used ?

It would be a nice *touch*...

Actually that's what it was intended to be, but finally I decided that the
robotic version of the spider (in the final scene there will be several
ones) was more *interesting*.

Yeah, just a reflective plane to see the bottom of the spider...
Anyway that's the code:

plane {y,0
pigment {rgb <.6,.8,1>*.3}
finish {diffuse .5 specular .2 roughness 0.1 reflection 0.2*<.6,.8,1>}
}

Uh, ambient 0 by default.

Actually the skysphere is not a skysphere, but an image map (sky.tga found
in a folder of 3dwin) wrapped around a sphere (boooh). This scene has
nothing to do with the final scene, I just wanted to see if my spider looked
good (it is a quite common test scene: sky and reflective plane...).

Cheers,
JRG

Yeah ... that was my thought too ...
seems a good one for testing out things ...
looks good without distracting.
Thanks for the code.
