I know, they're all works in progress ;-).
First of all, yes, it is a photograph of clouds. Sorry.
The image is an exercise in using 3D Julia fractals.
It began as an outgrowth of a little quick VisualBasic
program that I wrote to generate POV scenes with
random variations on the Julia factal object. I used
a few of them to make this. The final image will be
stereoscopic and have a stereo photograph of a woman
where the pink blob is located. I've just rendered a version
with a Poser model to use for the final compositing in
Photo Shop.
Thanks to Michael Hough for his water tutorial.

What a fantastic shapes can be made with this technique! No way one
could think of them directly, I think. The colours are great! Just
beautiful :))

Looks nice, how long does it take to render?
The clouds are not bad, but something made with Pov would fit better in
the scene IMO.

I agree, it would be nice to have POV generated sky. I looked around
for some examples of realistic looking clouds but decided to use real
ones for two reasons: 1. Better looking than the best I could do with
POV. 2. I am thinking of entering the image into Photographic Society of
America competitions and they're considering making it a requirement
that all entries be more than 50% photographic in origin by surface area.
My primary interest is in stereoscopic imaging, whether photo or rendered.
I like to combine the two, but the photographers don't like it because
much of it is computer rendered, and the computer graphics people
don't like that it has photographic elements. Me, I just like the 3D!

Rick,
I could send you a jpeg, but since it has nudity and my friend
the model has not yet seen it, I won't be posting it. Let me
know if you'd like a stereo pair (cross-eye format?).

Wow! They look perfectly natural sitting there (but they always do,
right, Julia fractals?). This really has a distinctive atmosphere.
