I need this on a white background and I need it soon, which is
somewhat hard as it takes 9 hours to render and I need to animate it
(but at a lower res, whew) :). Any ideas?

I can use a plain white background sphere and a combination of
no_image / no_reflection, or I can create a mask with a white pigment
/ ambient 1, or...? Please help, my brain's burned out and I can't
think rationally anymore, and I need this finished asap.

What do you need? Just the characters? How about removing the plane and
using background {rgb 1}? No reflections, no shadows, just the chars.

I got something wrong, did I?

I don't see the problem, which probably means I don't understand the
problem. Please explain why a plain white bg (sphere?) is a problem.

Do it on the radio !

Sorry that I can't offer any constructive advice but hopefully a bit of
humour might refresh your brain (although you need to have seen "Educating
Rita" to understand).

Michael Cain always plays old farts who screw around with young women and end
up getting dumped, more miserable than ever...

Peter, take a break now. Everything will be o.k. We're here to help you.
(Nurse, get the thorazine ready...) Now Peter, just relax and close your
eyes.

And I've recently been to an amateur production of this where the guy
playing the tutor put in a better performance than Michael Caine IMO.

Another reference from Rita's mother : "There must be better logos to design
than this" - no reflection on your skills Peter.

I think he said he didn't want any reflection or refraction.
