You are probably right, but I was hoping that somebody had already done 
the conversions, and was willing to share. I was in luck, because Gilles 
Tran has been kind enough to send me some of his.

I don't. If I stand on the street looking up at the church, I see 
falling verticals. The same if I take a photo (see attachment), so why 
should'nt I have them in my renderings.

Just about right. I'm going for a winter scene, as I don't want to put 
leaves on all those trees and bushes.

If you're not satisfied with the trees, you may want to check out POV-Tree.

But I warn you, the include files that POV-Tree produces are huge (15 mb or
so), so get ready to do some "Parsing..."

Thank you, but I have tried it, and I liked the results I got with it 
even less. Problem is, I'm not just looking for something that looks 
convincingly like a tree, I want it to look like the specific trees, 
that stand around the real church.
