I rendered this at a huge size, and I got this arc across the bottom. What did I do
wrong?
Where do I start looking?

Media water - height field sea floor simple fishies...

The pressure at that depth wrinkled your camera. Try re-rendering at no
more than 10 meters depth. ;-)

Cheers!

LOL, thanks...

It IS the media, I am retrying now leaving out various settings.

It looks like this (in my water media) that was the culprit.
            /*
            density{bumps turbulence 1.34985938
                color_map{
                        [0 color rgb .5]
                        [1 color rgb 1]
                }
                scale 50
            }
            */

Well, perhaps if you had only used 1.34985937 turbulence, it wouldn't have
been so bad. ;)

The problem was most likely related to sampling parameters.

Haha.
Yeah I do that so my patterns aren't exactly the same as anyone else's. :P
